I joined MyFoodDiary a couple of years ago when Tarah Parker-Pope recommended it in her review of food diaries for the Wall Street Journal. When I use it, it's eye opening & IT WORKS! It shows you exactly how healthy your diet has been. Calories, carbs, sat. fat., cholesterol, vitamins, you name it. It is time consuming, though, and I haven't been very religious about it lately. The thing is, I would fill it out at the end of the day, or after I ate. One of my New Year's resolutions has been to avoid taking statins by eating all the foods known to keep cholesterol down naturally, like oats & soy. (I'll save that for another post- see Janet Brill's Cholesterol Down) I've got a list of about 10 foods I aim for everyday. Hasn't happened yet. I'm always short. Then it dawned on me....Figure out what I'm going to eat before I start eating. I filled out MyFoodDiary
in the morning with what I planned to eat, so I could include everything I should eat. Plugged it all in, & found out, if I ate all that, I was way over the number of calories I should be eating. That was a revelation! No wonder it's so hard to eat all the right stuff, especially when I'm also throwing in all the wrong stuff, like cookies, chocolate & cheese. I printed out the whole list off MyFoodDiary and now I have my plan for the day. Now I know before I even start the day how I'm going eat what I'm supposed to eat!
