Around Thanksgiving my husband turned 60.
Around New Year's I'll be joining him.
Back in 1967 when I first heard the Beatle's song, "When I'm 64" the thought of getting to that age seemed like a million years away. And now I'm almost there. Yikes! How does that happen so quickly?
1970
When I get older losing my hair, many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine,
birthday greeting, bottle of wine? Will you still need me,
Will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?
Speaking of turning 60--check out Ben Schott's Op-Chart (it's easier to read than my reproduction) in the December 14th New York Times. Pretty interesting statistics about what life looks like at age 57-85.
His chart data was collected by the University of Chicago's National Social Life and Health Project.
Schott has done a fantastic job of summarizing much of the NSHAP data that was recently published in the Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences, vol. 64, Suppl. 1, November, 2009.
According to the NSHAP: "The health of older adults is influenced by many factors. One of the least understood is the role that social support and personal relationships play in health and aging."
It certainly looks like the Beatles were right back in 1967 when they wrote, "We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends". If you doubt it, check out who lives the longest and happiest of lives, in: "Longevity Lessons: It's Not Just Exercise & Diet - It's Friends, Empathy, Cooperation & A Laid-Back Attitude"
Who says it's got to be all downhill from here?
yikes. I thought 40 seemed like an eternity away. Now I'm 50. Ack!
Luv the headband, BTW:)
